Dimensions
Defining Company Dimensions for Effective Data Management
The Dimensions Page allows clients to organize key aspects of their company structure, such as countries, companies, and business units. Dimensions play a critical role in structuring your ESG data, but it's important to note that, when first created, dimensions do not have any correlations between themselves. These relationships are established later when creating workflows.
What Are Dimensions?
Dimensions represent the different organizational categories that you need for data reporting. For example:
- Dimension: Country
- Values: Spain, Italy, Brazil, France
You can add values to each dimension to ensure an accurate and flexible representation of your organization's structure.
Key Features of the Dimensions Page
In this section, users can:
- Create, edit, and disable dimensions to match the company's current structure.
- Add dimension values such as country names or business units, which will later be used to link KPIs in workflows and then create the respectives data points.
How to Create a New Dimension
- Click on the "New Dimension" button.
- Enter the dimension name (e.g., country, business unit).
- Add values to the dimension (e.g., Spain, Italy, Brazil) by clicking the "+" icon and saving the entries.
Editing and Disabling Dimensions
- To edit a dimension: Select the dimension you want to update, modify its name or values, and save the changes.
- To disable a dimension: Click the eye-shaped icon to deactivate it. The dimension will remain inactive until reactivated.
Dimensions Combinations
Creating Unique Nodes in Dimensions
In Dimensions, you can create unique nodes by combining different types of Dimensions configured in the Dimension tab. This approach offers flexibility to structure data at varying levels of granularity and reduce the possibility of create wrong combinations.
Example:
Here are some examples of Dimensions that could be combined:
Countries: Spain, France, Italy
Cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille, Milan, Rome
Companies: Aplanet, Aplanet Italy, Aplanet France
Group: Aplanet Group
Let’s assume the following scenarios:
Aplanet operates only in Spain.
Aplanet Italy operates only in Italy.
Aplanet France operates only in France.
All three companies belong to the Aplanet Group.
Possible Combinations
With this setup, the following node combinations can be created:
City-Level Granularity
Madrid > Spain > Aplanet > Aplanet Group
Barcelona > Spain > Aplanet > Aplanet Group
Marseille > France > Aplanet France > Aplanet Group
Milan > Italy > Aplanet Italy > Aplanet Group
Rome > Italy > Aplanet Italy > Aplanet Group
Country-Level Granularity
If you don’t have granular city-level data, you can skip that layer and create nodes based only on countries:
Spain > Aplanet > Aplanet Group
France > Aplanet France > Aplanet Group
Italy > Aplanet Italy > Aplanet Group
Consolidated Data
For fully consolidated data, you can use a single node:
Aplanet Group
Key Benefits
This flexible structure allows you to create only the combinations necessary for your data. Whether you need detailed city-level insights, country-level aggregation, or consolidated group-level reporting, Dimensions can adapt to your needs and will be used while creating Reporting Teams [link to be added].
The Dimensions Page provides flexibility and control over how your organization’s structure is represented within the platform. By setting up accurate dimensions and values, you’ll ensure a smoother workflow creation process and more precise data reporting across your ESG framework.
